„Welche Decke passt zu meinem Leben?“ Der Kuscheldecken-Guide 2026 für Babys, Kinder und Erwachsene

"Which blanket suits my life?" The 2026 Cuddle Blanket Guide for Babies, Children, and Adults

Which throw blanket is right for your life? The short answer: For babies, a tested blanket in 75 × 100 cm (OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, product class 1); for children, a light, robust blanket in 100 × 150 cm with approx. 320 g/m²; for adults, a densely woven throw blanket in 150 × 200 cm with approx. 450 g/m². Each made of 100% cotton, washable at 30 °C. And the long answer? Here it comes.

First the Category, Then the Colour

Most people choose a blanket based on its appearance. Understandable – yet the wrong order. A good blanket will accompany you for many years, and whether it does so well is decided by two sober questions: Who is it for? And: Where will it be used? Once these are answered, size, grammage, and testing requirements are almost a given. Afterwards, you can choose the colour and design entirely by feel.

Baby Blankets: The Strictest Rules in the Range

Baby skin is thinner and more permeable than yours. Therefore, the toughest standard applies here: OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, Product Class 1, the testing class specifically designed for baby and toddler items. In addition, 100% cotton, preferably organic cotton (kbA) – breathable and temperature-regulating, which is important because babies cannot yet regulate their body temperature well on their own.

The 75 × 100 cm size fits in prams and Moses baskets and can be taken anywhere. And because baby blankets often end up in the laundry, woven cotton is ideal here: 30 °C delicate wash, as often as necessary, without affecting shape or feel. You can find our models in the Baby Blankets collection.

Children's Blankets: Built for Everyday Life

From about one year old, the range of activity grows, and the blanket must keep up: daycare, sofa, back seat, building forts in the children's room. The 100 × 150 cm size is large enough for snuggling and small enough for a daycare backpack. At approx. 320 g/m², the blanket is deliberately lighter than a throw blanket – children can carry and spread it themselves, and no one gets too warm during a nap.

A detail that parents often only learn to appreciate after a few months: Our designs are woven, not printed. They are created thread by thread on the loom and therefore survive even the fiftieth wash. The selection is shown in the Children's Blankets collection.

Throw Blankets: The All-Rounder

Sofa, foot of the bed, over the shoulders in the home office – the throw blanket is the blanket that works the most. Substance counts here: approx. 450 g/m², densely woven, feels substantial on the body and reliably warms.

For size, 150 × 200 cm is the standard, in which most adults can completely wrap themselves. If you are taller than about 1.85 m, choose the comfort length 150 × 220 cm – protruding feet make any blanket feel colder. 140 × 200 cm is the slimmer alternative. All models in standard size: Throw Blanket 150 × 200 cm.

What's in Our Blankets

All blankets on kuscheldecke.de are made of 100% cotton and are woven and finished in Germany at Weberei Richter. Short distances, a traceable production chain – no anonymous goods.

For fibres, you have the choice: organic cotton (kbA) from controlled organic cultivation, without synthetic pesticides, secured by GOTS certification (collection Organic Cotton). Or recycled cotton fibres: The Amrum and Texel series give valuable material a second life, also woven in Germany and tested for harmful substances.

And because we want to offer honest advice: Cotton is heavier than fleece and less warming than virgin wool. However, it is breathable, does not attract dust, can be washed easily, and ages gracefully. For everyday use, that's the better deal.

Care: One Rule, No More

30 °C, delicate cycle, without fabric softener – it forms a film on the fibres and deprives the cotton of its breathability. Everything else is described step-by-step in the washing instructions.

Conclusion

First clarify the category – baby, child, or throw blanket – then size and grammage, and finally let your heart decide. You don't have to worry about pollutant testing, origin, and care with us; that's consistently taken care of for every blanket.
