Nachhaltige Kuscheldecke als Geschenk: Worauf es wirklich ankommt

Sustainable Cuddly Blanket as a Gift: What Really Matters

A cuddly blanket is one of the few gifts that is used daily for years. That's why it's worth taking a closer look at sustainability – because "sustainable" is now on many labels. This guide shows what certifications really count.

Four characteristics by which you can recognize true sustainability

1. Certified organic cotton (GOTS/kbA)

Cotton from controlled organic cultivation (kbA) avoids pesticides, artificial fertilizers, and genetic engineering. The GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) also checks the entire processing chain – ecologically and socially. Important: GOTS applies per product, not generally per brand. Serious providers therefore precisely indicate which products are certified and state their license number – you can find ours on the Certifications & Proofs page.

2. Recycled cotton

Even more resource-efficient than cultivation is recycling: For blankets made from recycled cotton, fibers from pre-consumer yarns and fabrics are re-spun – without additional cultivation, without loss of quality in feel and durability.

3. Short distances: Made in Germany

A blanket that travels halfway around the world negates any material balance. Our blankets are woven and finished at Richter Textilien in Germany – we have personally visited the production. Short distances, traceable origin, fair production conditions.

4. Durability: woven, not printed

The most sustainable product is one that does not need to be replaced. With woven blankets, the motif is created thread by thread in the weave – it cannot peel or wash out. Printed fleece blankets, on the other hand, often lose color and shape after a few washes.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if a blanket is truly GOTS-certified?

By the product-related notice including the license number of the certification body – general statements such as "sustainable materials" without a number are not proof. GOTS licenses can be checked in the public GOTS database.

Is recycled cotton of inferior quality?

No – the recycled fibers are processed with the same weaving technique and density (approx. 450 g/m²) and are tested for harmful substances according to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, Product Class 1.

How long does a woven cotton blanket last?

With proper care (30 °C delicate wash, no fabric softener – see washing instructions) many years – woven blankets are often passed down through generations.
